Social Investment Forum (Patrick McVeigh, project manager). "Report on Responsible Investing Trends in the United States." Social Investment Forum. November 1997.

Finds that 710 major investing institutions (defined as pension fund families, mutual funds, community development funds, and foundations) with $1.2 trillion in assets engaged in some type of responsible investing. This was approximately 9% of total U.S. assets under management, slightly below the 10% reported in the 1995 study. Screened portfolios accounted for approximately $529 billion of the total, with the remainder used for shareholder activism, economically targeted investment, or other strategies.
